NAOS Ship and Boat Design – IWSA Member
NAOS Ship and Boat Design is a Ship Design Company with a particular specialization in Ro-Ro Ships and RoPax-Ferries. Established in 1993, today it heads a group of companies in Italy, Spain, Croatia and Sweden which invests more than 15% of its turnover in R&D and new design tools, pioneering innovations in several sectors of ship design..
NAOS has been studying a modular wing system since 2014, which can be applied to many different types of ship, generally without negative interaction with the cargo or equipment.
The specific key points of the system are;
- The high efficiency also in and up-wind direction
- The easy abatement when unnecessary or ineffective (no wind at all)
- The mechanical simplicity and reliability
Currently the first 1:3 prototype is under construction and will be ready for factory tests in November 2020. It should then later be installed on a 200 m long RoPax, with the purpose to take at-sea measurement of forces and identify possible improvements.
