Founded in 1899, ClassNK is a ship classification society dedicated to safer, cleaner seas. ClassNK offers diverse technical services including the survey and classification of ships and marine structures based on technical independently developed rules. With more than 270 million gross tons on register, ClassNK is one of the world’s largest classification societies.
ClassNK has compiled its “Guidelines for Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems for Ships” to minimize the potential risks of these installations and has established class notations. In 2023, ClassNK made significant updates to these guidelines based on insights from actual onboard projects, clarifying the requirements for “Wind-Assisted Propulsion Systems,” “Base Ships,” and “Surveys,” respectively, with further revisions in 2024 to keep them up to date.
ClassNK will continue bringing new technology into widespread use for the brighter, more sustainable future.
