South Korean shipowner Polaris Shipping Co., Ltd. has ordered four 210,000 dwt Newcastlemax bulk carriers from Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., with the vessels designed to operate on ethanol, methanol or conventional marine fuels. The vessels will feature rotor sails and other energy-efficiency technologies to further reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Polaris has secured 25-year transportation contracts with Brazilian mining company Vale for all four vessels.
