As with all marine equipment there are training requirements and additional considerations for the crew, captain, shore-based staff and port operators, however due to the vast majority of modern wind propulsion systems being automated and monitored in operation through the bridge control system and sensors on the systems themselves then the key training elements are familiarisation with the system and operations, basic safety considerations, maintenance and emergency procedures.

We loved having a wind system installed on the ship though we were a little nervous at first as no-one had used this kind of equipment. After a few teething problems, It proved to be really straightforward and the maintenance schedule is not heavy at all.
