The European Maritime Transport Environmental Report 2025 (EMTER 2025) was released on 04 February 2025. IWSA has contributed to the report and the IWSA Secretary General was also kindly invited by the European Environment Agency and European Maritime safety Agency to join one of the two expert panels discussing the report findings, the impact of this report and also the wider ramifications of the scaling of wind propulsion and other energy transition pathways.

EMTER 2025 provides a fully up to date and comprehensive overview of the environmental impact of the maritime transport sector in the EU across a wide range of indicators. With updated facts and data, the report provides a factual analysis of the environmental pressures exerted by the maritime transport sector in areas like greenhouse gas emissions, air emissions, underwater noise, biodiversity, pollution, and marine litter. The Neoliner Origin RoRo ship was launched at RMK Marine shipyard in Tuzla, Turkey on the 31st January 2025

The vessel will be moored at RMK Marine’s outfitting quay, where the final outfitting works, the mast installation, and dock trials will take place. The first steel plate was cut in November 2023 and the laying of the first block in February 2024. The 136m long vessel will primarily be powered by two 76-meter Solid Sail carbon masts with retractable leeboards. Neoline states that the operating speed will be 11 knots and GHG emission reductions of up to 80% compared to a similar sized conventional ship.

Cargo capacity is 1,200 linear meters or 265 TEUs, with a maximum weight of 5,300 tons of goods, including rolling equipment, containers, and oversized freight. Delivery is expected in late June 2025, followed by its inaugural voyage departing from Saint-Nazaire in summer 2025.The Neoliner Origin will operate a regular route between Saint-Nazaire, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Baltimore (USA), and Halifax (Canada).

The work has been undertaken by the RMK Marine teams and all technical partners: Mauric, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, Fouré Lagadec, D-Ice Engineering, Axima,Bio-Sea, Gürdesan, BMA, Berg Propulsion, ABC, and others. Read more…
